Dr. Yvette Irizarry

Dear Camelot Knights,

This is Dr. Yvette Irizarry, and I am extremely excited to be the Principal of a wonderful school within this community. My background experience includes working at the elementary, high school and university level. I have been involved in the gifted, special needs and general education programs. I have a strong passion for ensuring that all children at Camelot are adequately prepared to be globally successful in the 21 st Century. Our educational environment fosters technology-rich, college and career readiness skills, as we help students explore, discover and nurture their individual talents in order to prepare them for personal success in the future.

I have an equally strong passion for nurturing learning for my staff. This includes providing all teachers with professional development growth opportunities and building leadership. It is important as adults that all educators continue to grow in their own expertise and model for our students the importance of being a lifelong learner in an environment of constant change.

I believe in the importance of involving parents and the community in the education of their children. Parental involvement is an integral part of educational success. Parents and community members, I encourage you to be involved in our school. Volunteering is an important part of our success!

Camelot Elementary School has been a very successful school from its opening. The Castle doors opened in August 2001. Currently, our enrollment is approximately 607 students, which includes Pre-Kindergarten. Over the years, we have become a small, close knit family. We are strong, united, and my staff has a unique passion for working with children. As you enter our magnificent Castle, you are greeted by our decorated stairs displaying math facts so our children can review their math fluency on a daily basis.

My purpose is to provide a safe environment where all students feel empowered to learn to develop skills and strategies, to become life-long learners. Safety is a priority as well! Our Castle has multiple security cameras throughout the campus. Visitors are being monitored as soon as they ring the bell to enter the building. Once they enter the building, they must report to the main office where their personal information is obtained through a scanning process. We also work closely with a School Resource Officer who is present on our campus.

I am extremely proud of the many accolades my teachers have earned throughout the district. Over the years, Camelot has had many distinguished teachers among them, three teachers who have become OCPS Teacher of the Year Finalists! This is a huge accomplishment!

Camelot has received the 5 Star Award and the Golden School Award for multiple years. Our SAC and PTA are wonderful. They join their efforts and seek what is best for Camelot. PTA is very active and provides monthly “Movie Knights,” “Holiday Shoppe,” skating parties, Winter Festival, Boosterthon, and multiple other fundraising activities to support our school.
Camelot partners with local high school students and UCF students who volunteer at school functions. They also assist in tutoring our students.

Camelot has a Technology Committee that meets monthly and provides additional technology strategies to support our school as we grow with the latest technology trends. Camelot’s technology is growing at a rapid pace! We have SmartBoards installed in every classroom as well as three computer labs. Additionally we even have mobile carts for teachers to use with students in their classrooms. Students are also welcome to bring their own device on campus to support their learning.

Our 1 st and 2 nd grade students are participating in “Project Lead the Way”. This program was made possible through a grant which allows students to work on STEM projects with iPads. Our students and teachers are very excited to participate in this program.

When it comes to be a dynamic team, you can count on us! Camelot consistently provides a dynamic extended day program for our students and they are exposed to afterschool clubs such as choir, science club, runner’s club, dance club, STEM Club and tutoring. Our amazing choir has performed at various events such as: Avalon Aglow, Disney, and at Orlando MAGIC games. Camelot also has schoolwide events each year such as science fair, spelling bee, oration contest, and multiple award ceremonies, a talent show, holiday concerts, book fairs, math/reading and FSA Nights, and a FSA dance. We also provide a Teach-In for students which include parent and community members sharing their career experiences. Fourth and fifth grade hold an annual Engineering Day each year for their students. This offers great opportunities for college readiness.

We are tops in modeling and guiding our students in making the right choices. Camelot is very proud of our “Noble Knight Program”. This initiative instills good character and student behavior. Students are selected each month by their peers as they display the characteristics of what they feel a “Noble Knight” should be. These students are recognized on the morning news, presented with a special T-shirt and at the end of the year they are celebrated at a “Noble Knight” ceremony.

Camelot Elementary School provides the following stellar programs: Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten, Pre-K ASD, Pre-K VE, and ASD K-5, support facilitation, and gifted cluster classrooms on every grade level. We currently offer the Basic ESOL (K-12) Program Model for our English Language Learners as well as intervention services for students who need extra assistance.

At Camelot, everyone puts students first and we truly believe everyone can shine. You can feel the laughter and joy of all students from the moment they enter the Castle. Camelot Elementary is truly a place “Where Dreams Begin!”
