Did you know? According to the Americans for the Arts, kids who are involved in arts are:

· 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement.

· 3 times more likely to be elected to class office within their schools.

· 4 times more likely to participate in a math and science fair.

· 3 times more likely to win an award for school attendance.

Art creation promotes problem-solving skills, high self-esteem, and thinking outside the box. My goal every single day is to promote your student’s academic and emotional growth, inside and outside the classroom, by creating an atmosphere that challenges them to look within for answers. Art gives children a voice to celebrate, question, examine, dispute, or support, what is going on in the world around them, which is crucial to their growth as individuals, especially at this point in their lives!

I want to make sure every student feels safe in voicing their opinions through Art, so I take great pains to teach my students respect for their teachers and for each other, and how to support their peers honestly through positive support and praise for one another’s work. Building good character is an important part of teaching students and something I take very seriously, I work hard to create a respectful, thoughtful and polite environment students feel comfortable participating in.

I am working with Dr. Irizarry on a way to create an Art Gallery in the lobby of our school! Displaying student work is an important step in building self-esteem - by affording students the opportunity to show off what they have accomplished, and allowing parents to see what their children are up to in school. Look for it to ‘pop up’ by the end of October, with invitations for viewing to follow!

I’m so glad to be a part of your child’s education process here at Camelot and to help expand their view of the world through different avenues of thinking and imagining!

Feel free to email or call me anytime with questions or comments!

Create-fully yours,

Mrs. Elliott
