Dr. Andrew Taylor Plaque

On February 2, 2009, our former principal, Dr. George Andrew “Andy” Taylor III lost his battle with cancer. Dr. Taylor worked in the Orange County Public School system as a teacher and administrator for 30 years and retired four years ago. Dr. Taylor's last wishes were that in lieu of flowers, books should be donated to the Camelot Elementary media center or make a donation to the Hospice of Volusia County. Camelot was Dr. Taylor's last school, which was very special to him since he opened it as a new school in 2001.

The media center was dedicated in his memory and renamed "The Dr. Andrew Taylor Media Center" on May 13, 2009. A section of the library has been reserved for the donated books with a plaque designating it as the "Dr. Andrew Taylor Collection". Name plates were placed in the books that read: “Dr. Taylor says to read with your child every day!” along with the donor's name. The sentiment is a quote that Dr. Taylor was fond of sharing with our Camelot community and reflected his deep passion for family involvement and literacy.

By honoring Dr. Taylor with this memorial, we hope to honor the memory of his service and love of children. Dr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Ellen and sons, Jared and Justin Taylor.
